How Finch works

A system, not a pile of resources.

Finch decides what should be learned, when it should be learned and how you find out whether it has been understood — so preparation at home has a direction.

The Finch system

Map → Learn → Check → Adapt → Progress.

Every Finch month runs through the same five movements. It's what makes preparation cumulative rather than scattered.

  1. Map

    Know what needs covering. Finch sets out the Maths and English content a child needs, in a sensible order, so preparation isn't decided week by week.

  2. Learn

    Build secure knowledge. Focused weekly learning with teaching notes, worked examples and practice, designed for around 45 minutes of work at a time.

  3. Check

    Find out what is understood. Knowledge Checks and the Week 4 assessment show what has been secured rather than simply what has been covered.

  4. Adapt

    Respond to what the child needs. Results inform what deserves more time, more challenge or a second pass.

  5. Progress

    Keep preparation moving forward. Each month builds on the last, so preparation accumulates instead of restarting.

The five movements sit inside one framework. It describes how a child moves from knowing something to being able to use it under exam conditions.

Build the foundations — the curriculum knowledge, vocabulary and methods a child needs to work from.

Develop reasoning, problem-solving and the ability to use knowledge in unfamiliar questions.

Gradually introduce assessment-style questions, exam technique and working under exam conditions.
